There is however a star in the Pleiades, the aforementioned Pleione, which is an irregular, fluctuating variable. Several legends have been told about the Pleiades. According to Aeschylus, the sisters witnessed the state in heaven following the pain of their father's misfortune (according to others, however, due to the death of his brother Iante, bitten by a snake). According to Pindar, Hesiod and others the Pleiades, together with his mother Pleione, fled for five years through the fields of Boeotia before the greed of the hunter Orion despite the gods, transformed them into doves (in Greek peleiades), immortalized their image among the the stars.
