Description

This painting is part of the series "The Thousand and One Nights" that is inspired by cities the artist visited and he hopes to visit again to stay there for longer times.

He named the painting after the city Mwanza which is a port city on the shore of Lake Victoria, in northern Tanzania. It's ringed by beautiful green hills. They city is known for unusual rock formations like Bismarck Rock.

He made the painting in November 2021. The medium is oil on canvas of size 47x71 inches (120x180 cm).

He signed it on the front. The stretched canvas is staple free sides, wired on the back and with no need for framing. It's ready to hang.

Concept

Khalid’s abstract style and fearless brush work allow him to communicate emotions and mode felt at the moment of painting. His paintings are gestural, impactful and full of movements.

Khalid' statement: For me, creativity is a derivative of mode and ambience of painting sessions. I believe that, the character of a painting reflects the mode of the artist through brush strokes, texture and colour.

I believe, a painting has a life of its own that evolves during painting session. For me, a painting starts to take direction after I cover a large part of the canvas with paint. Then I start to solve many problems the painting has, until I end up with a painting that tells the story or delivers the statement I want.

I consider the art of painting as the fastest way to record any artistic idea or to document a situation experienced by the artist as result of being in a given community. I am a believer in the famous saying - if you want to know how great a society is, look at its art.
