The Blue Room series were created during one of the artist-in-residence programs, while staying in one of the large chain hotels. Luxurious, but rather dull design of the hotel’s interiors motivated Zakhar to imaginary remove of all excessive and unnecessary décor, trying to get to the essence of the building’s structure. As a result, the artist created a series of four oil paintings that in style and manner remind some of the avant-garde artworks from the beginning of the 20th century. The artwork is dominated by clod blue colour and straight geometric lines that symbolise the concrete artificial structure of the building. The only exception is the narrow strip in the left bottom corner of the painting that looks like a small surrealistic window in the floor of the room, where outside world is depicted with much warmer shades of blue, creating very interesting contrast with strict and cold surroundings of the room.
The artwork will be shipped carefully and safely rolled in a durable plastic tube because of its large size. Rolled artworks can easily be re-stretched.
