I created this work after a Japanese politician said, Women are maternity machines. The woman on the right, symbolizing a birthing machine, is reaching for the fruit, the result of mating, while the woman on the left, symbolizing a non-producing machine, is sitting with her eyes away. The artist's metaphor of women as birthing machines expresses the grotesqueness of dividing women into birthing machines and non-breeding machines. As the artist himself has a gynecological condition that makes it difficult to conceive, this is a work that holds a great deal of personal significance for me.
