    Suiboku-ga (ink painting) on Japanese paper. The motif is the profile of the Virgin Mary, which is painted over and over in light ink to create a soft, pale atmosphere. Once ink has been applied, it cannot be erased, so the work requires a high level of skill and concentration.

    Concept

    Kakuyama was born in Japan and educated in Catholic schools from the age of 3 to 18. He then went on to study oil painting at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, but felt that "as long as I was born with a Japanese body, I could not become a painter without knowing about Japanese art and art," so after graduation he studied Japanese painting techniques while working on his studies of Japanese dance and Noh theater. Currently, she uses ink and mineral pigments to create works inspired by her own roots in Christianity and Western mythology. Kakuzan's Japanese paintings, a fusion of Western and Eastern cultures, provide viewers with fresh surprises, and his reputation has been growing in recent years.
