Concept

Shinpei Kawai. Born 1987.
From an early age, grew up hearing stories about overseas filming locations from his father, who was a news photographer.
This sparked an interest in travelling, and she experienced wandering abroad as a backpacker. This experience has had a major influence on his work.

He pursues a philosophy based on a mixture of Shintoism and Buddhism, a uniquely Japanese religious view, and creates works mainly on the theme of the 'Middle Way', one of the teachings of Buddhism.
He draws on the polarities of Suiboku-ga, the "art of water and fire (because,ink made from charcoal.)", as a means of expressing the Middle Way.

While using classical ink painting techniques as a basis, she pursues contemporary ink painting expression by incorporating new approaches such as stencils and silk screens, and interprets and expresses various problems of contemporary society and how to deal with them within the framework of ink painting.
The production concept is based on the two sides of the same coin, yin-yang and dichotomy, such as 'present and past', 'reality and fiction', 'West and East', 'regularity and coincidence' and 'predictability and deviation'.

Through activities such as ink painting classes, workshops and live painting to promote the appeal of ink painting, she strives to educate people about Japanese philosophy.
