Concept
Olesya Tkachenko is a multifaceted artist. The sphere of her creative research includes both traditional techniques of painting and graphics, as well as modern art forms, which are boldly integrated with the technological and practical capabilities of design, decorative and applied art.
In her own work, the artist professes an interspecific approach, which in general became a fundamental experience for the art of the 20th century. Instead, the author is interested not only in the search for new plastic forms of material embodiment of art work, but much more, in particular, the creation of such art objects and installations that are able to expand the boundaries of constant forms of representation, transform space and fill it with new visual effects of perception. The intrigue of the innovative method of the master is that it works with the usual, at first glance, materials, including textiles, threads, cotton, silk, the use of which in the world culture has a millennial historical gravity and is traditionally associated with decorative and applied art.
Ecological, widely known in culture, materials in combination with archaic approaches and techniques become the basis for the author in the study of the contemporary art imagery. At the same time, techniques and means of performing, plots, topics, motives, as well as composition, colour, and tone are often borrowed from the tools of professional painting. In this combination there is a formal experiment with reality and fine arts.
What Olesya Tkachenko creates can be called "textile painting" (panels), where instead of the usual paints as the material the author uses fibers of cotton, or "textile and painting installations" (art objects) that are formed in space with the help of same natural materials. Both development vectors demonstrate the artist's personal contribution in the study of the process of combining different types of art - visual, decorative and applied, theatrical (scenography), and others, observation of their transformation and the emergence of new plastic and visual effects. The purpose of such research is to renew the perception of traditional natural materials and techniques used for us to create quite unusual modern art objects and installations. All together leads to the amazing effects of space transformation. In her works there is a process of discovering the usual, at first glance, things from a new perspective, dominated by reflection and rethinking, while certain states, emotions and feelings are often achieved through tactile contact with the work.
