I have started a series of pools in 2021 directly inspired by David Hockney's pools.
David Hockney's pools of the 60's and 70's embody hedonism, joie de vivre, homosexuality and perhaps hope.
Today, their meaning seems to me different from David Hockney's pools because of our times, because of the IPCC reports. Even if they still embody a certain hedonism, they convey an image of selfishness, they symbolize access to water, and the lack of access to water.
My pools are symbols of our human behavior, they are ideas of pools, imaginary, placed in unlikely places. These pools are puddles, basins, ponds, wells...
We are creating a world where many will have unwanted pools and others will have dried up wells.
This work "Pool with Toulouse" is the first of the series.
