Cloud skin linen paper, mizu-hoshi pigments, iwa-enamori (mineral pigments)
The title was chosen by combining the Japanese readings of "stop" for "stop watch" and "death" for "creature," both of which are pronounced "shi.
A clock that has stopped will run when the batteries are put back in, but the sight of a clock that has been running for years or decades but has stopped seems ephemeral. Death of living things is a scary thing, but it is also a fleeting and beautiful thing, because it is because of death that we now try to live.
I think it is beautiful when we do not think of stopping as something sad, but as something that has happened due to the transcendence of life and time so far. I created this work in the hope that I could share these thoughts with the viewer.
