I wrote this piece about racism and the global economy.
I am a Japanese-Russian quarter and have been bullied in Japan because of my appearance. For this reason, I stopped attending junior high school and dropped out of high school.
Later, after I got a D.A. and entered university, I made similar mixed/double friends. Many people had similar painful experiences due to external factors, and it was then that I realized that this was not just a problem for me, but a socially significant issue.
In the coming global society, there will be a more diverse mix of races than was possible in the 20th century. Through my paintings, I hope that many people will consider the significance of the problem of racism that humanity faces.
The three eyes represent the West, the East, and the mix, respectively.
The size of the eyes represents their respective levels of maturity in capitalism. The three eyes represent the three different levels of maturity in capitalism, since the historical background of racism has always been related to the colonial rule of the developed world.
Capitalism is a concept that originated in the West and was Western-dominated until the 20th century. In the 21st century, however, China and other Asian countries have achieved rapid economic growth and are on the verge of becoming new economic powers. However, it is precisely because of the foundation of the Western economic system that China and other less developed countries have become models for economic development.
Technology never stops evolving. However, human ethical values have not yet caught up with the speed of technological evolution. We are now in an era where private companies like SpaceX are envisioned to go to Mars. Will we go to Mars and still have the problem of racism? There are also problems of a higher dimension in the universe.
The left represents the past and the right represents the future, depicting my hope that people from two different cultures can be a buffer between the clash of different cultures. Therefore, the eye in the center depicts myself, but I used Russian Rayonism to depict light so that a new race of people can shine the light of hope.
As an artist, I would like to be an artist who can contribute to the future of humanity in any way I can by communicating the remaining issues of human ethics in the 21st century to people in many countries.
