Pure encaustic, hot wax, and pigments on OSB from 2018.
This painting is a striking exploration of the depths of human emotion and the complexities that lie beneath the surface. The close-up portrait, rendered in rich and textured hues, draws the viewer into the subject’s intense gaze, which speaks to an inner world filled with unspoken feelings. The pomegranate, depicted with vivid detail, serves as a powerful symbol—representing themes of life, death, and rebirth, or perhaps the abundance and intricacy of human experience. The juxtaposition of the pomegranate with the face suggests a duality: the outer expression of identity and the inner tumult that remains hidden. Through a dramatic palette, this artwork conveys a profound sense of vulnerability, intensity, and the multifaceted nature of the human spirit.
In recent years, I have used OSB as a basis. By retracting the paint layers, I use the texture of the veneer as part of my compositions to create a unique rustic industrial atmosphere. Due to the OSB board, these works of art are very stable but heavy. This is recycled art.
The painting is made with self-made paint, which consists of pigments and beeswax. Does not contain oil or other paints.
The procedure itself dates back to antiquity and has been known for thousands of years. Only a few artists around the world work with wax on their own.
The encaustic is equipped with a simple wooden exhibition frame, which harmonizes with the industrial style of the painting and highlights it well. Ready to hang!
This work will be delivered with Care Instructions for my encaustic paintings and a signed certificate of authenticity. I ship this work in cardboard boxes carefully wrapped in bubble foil and protect the painting with cardboard.
