Argus, also Argos (ancient Greek Ἄργος, Latin Argus) is a character in ancient Greek mythology. Many-eyed giant, in connection with which he received the epithets "All-Seeing" and "Many-eyed" or "Panopt".
The many eyes, of which one part was asleep and the other was awake, made him an ideal guardian.
In antiquity, Argus was perceived as a personification of the starry sky. In modern times, the plot of the myth was reflected in the paintings of many artists, including P.P. Rubens and K. Lorrain.
