'Glencoe' depicts two figures lying before an abstract, mountainous landscape. It combines acrylic paint, ink and egg tempera to fuse materials from Eastern and Western art traditions. This hybrid style allows the image to simultaneously recall Japanese inkwash landscapes, aboriginal dot art, tempera murals, origami paper, Celtic knotwork and Scottish Highlandism.
The artist expresses her cultural identity through the painting, recalling her Japanese, British and Australian roots. Through the motif of a hike in the mountains, the painting celebrates transcultural movement and hybridity.
