Traditional Japanese painting materials are used. The background is gold leaf. I combined the yellow of the gold leaf with a yellow rose of the same color to create the golden rose. I used to paint only women, but when a friend died of cancer, I learned that roses are effective against illness, and that is when I started painting roses. At first, I painted ordinary faces, but by painting women's faces as roses, I was able to express the anonymity of women and the joy of the viewer's imagination of their faces.
