I painted this using Japanese painting materials. I used gold leaf for the background and named it "Falling Sun" because I felt the gold color was like the setting sun. The face is personified as a rose, but before, it was only a woman. 10 years ago, a friend of mine died of cancer, and I learned that roses are effective against illness, so I started painting them. When the face is made into a rose, the anonymity of the woman depicted becomes stronger, and the viewer's imagination is stimulated to see what she looks like. One of the difficulties I had was to match the orientation of the flowers with that of the human body.
