I drew this work with the image of the moment when life comes to an end. Humans, animals, insects, and plants are all born as one life, and after fulfilling their lives, they come to an end. I drew the butterflies flying around their wings with the image of caring for the life they lived to the fullest, radiating brilliance until their last moment.
I used mineral pigments to paint on Japanese paper. Iwa-enogu (mineral pigment) has particles that make the painting appear to sparkle in the light. By painting with multiple layers of paint, I tried to create a sense of transparency in the feathers and wings of the butterfly, as well as a sense of depth in the background.
