Description

"Les fourmis [Le troisième mois]" is made up of pictorial elements taken from the “Le troisième mois” series by artist Patrick Gourgouillat. Inspired by a work by Gustav Klimt entitled ‘Life and Death’, the artist poetically and simply composes a shortcut to our lives: death accompanies a couple in an improbable garden.
Technically, it consists of paper printed in black, cut out and glued to canvas. The glued motifs are then enhanced with black acrylic, as if to fix the intensity of the nuance. Hand-drawn elements in black, gold and orange are then added to the composition. The whole piece is covered with a matt varnish.

Concept

patrick gourgouillat -p.g.- is a French painter. He grew up in the south of France, and has lived in Paris, Prague (Czech Republic) and Berlin (Germany). As a teenager, he trained in silkscreen printing at the Beaux-arts d'Avignon, and in 1997 enrolled at Berlin's Freie Universität, where he studied theater and theology.

patrick gourgouillat -p.g.- began exploring pictorial art in earnest in 1995. In Berlin, where he lived at the time, he frequented the Tacheles squat and several Berlin workshops. Little by little, he forged his own artistic universe: eclectic, changing, tender and cruel.
