"Fin d'été" is composed of pictorial elements from artist Patrick Gourgouillat's "Le troisième mois" series. Patrick Gourgouillat was inspired by a fable by French poet Jean de La Fontaine, "La cigale et la fourmi", but here the cicada perpetuates summer with its flow of joy and music. The ants are represented underground by frozen cups. A clown, a figure from one of the artist's [Viva La Vida] series, stares at them in disillusion. In 'Fin d'été', Patrick Gourgouillat speaks of the ephemeral and the passage of time. Technically, it consists of black printed paper, cut and pasted onto canvas. The glued motifs are then enhanced with black acrylic, as if to fix the intensity of the nuance. Hand-drawn elements in black, gold and orange are then added to the composition. The whole is covered with a matte varnish.
