I paint on wooden panels, applying white synthetic resin paints made of acrylic components to create a base. Although I usually paint only abstract paintings, I was inspired in Kyoto by "nihonga" (Japanese-style painting) and the exquisite and beautiful designs of kimono, obi sash patterns, Japanese patterns, and family crests, which I incorporated into my own painting style to develop a series in the nihonga style. This series of works was created for a solo exhibition in Kyoto. The main motif is a Japanese dragon, which has long been worshipped in China, Japan, and other Asian countries as a guardian deity for good luck, to ward off bad luck, and to bring good harvests, etc. Using abstract lines, which is his own painting style, he expresses the dragon dynamically using blue gradation. *Though there are Japanese paintings that were influenced and inspired by and used as references, the composition, setting, and design of the painting are composed from original ideas, and are not homages to existing works of Japanese painting. The sides of the panels are taped with black tape.
