Wooden panel, acrylic paint, crayon, pastel. The "Akkun" series is a symbol of life in transition. The "akkun" is a kind of inner child, a part of Kumagai's childhood that still retains memories and traumas from his own childhood, even as an adult. While people are constantly changing, the influences of their childhood experiences and environment survive inside their veins. Kumagai created this new work based on his view of the inner child as a symbol of "transmigration," the interweaving of all life. The inner child is also an existence that lies dormant in the hearts of all people. Viewers will encounter their "hidden self" through the "Akkun" series.
