Description

"L'Heure Bleue"; A tree portrait that Sophie describes as "softly scintillating"; it radiates a soft, vaporous light. An almond tree in bloom: the white and beige foliage is vibrant and varies according to the nature of the light (daylight or artificial); mother-of-pearl pigments create iridescent reflections. The background appears plain, but is shaded and textured in places. It is painted with colored pigments; intense shades of blue: turquoise, ultramarine, cyan. The pigments have been mixed with oil paint and given a satin finish. The chamfers of the canvas have been painted in greige (light putty color).
