I create works of art based on the beautiful nature that seems to have stopped time: the sea, land, lakes, minerals, etc. Nature is the result of a series of miracles. It is also a miracle and coincidence that we can recognize it as beautiful. I hope that my works using such nature as a motif will give us a chance to recognize and appreciate the preciousness of the self again. This work captures the beauty and mystery of nature. Inspired by the hot spring fields of Kusatsu Onsen, this work depicts a volcano, or hot spring, a blessing of the earth, running down a rock covered with green algae. The title of this work is derived from the word Mitama, meaning "spirit. The word "Spirit" has the general meaning of the spirits of gods and ancestors, but in ancient Japanese it also means "boon" or "thanks. The way the hot spring is created by the heat deep within the earth and heals people is like a gift from the earth, or God.
