There was a philosopher who believed that the fundamental substance of all things is apeiron. He said that everything that eternally produces fresh matter and is subject to perception is derived from apeiron. It combines the polar natures of heat and cold, dry and wet, and gives rise to all of the multitude of forms and differences that appear in the world.
