Medium, acrylic paint, wooden panel / Reinterpretation of Ensoi Originally, Ensoi is one of the calligraphic styles in Zen, in which a circle is painted with a single stroke to represent the infinite, which is never lacking. It symbolically represents enlightenment, truth, buddhahood, and the universe as a whole, and signifies a mind free from captivity and attachment, although interpretation is said to be left to the viewer. My own interpretation focuses on the thought of freedom from attachment. I feel that stereotypes are deeply involved in this process, and I consider the shadows created by the three-dimensional matiere as the coexistence of two opposing sides, and by drawing them = acceptance, I mean liberation. Furthermore, by drawing freehand, I expressed the imperfection and ambiguity of human beings.
