    Description

24 solar terms: heavy snow, 72 weather conditions: bears hibernate in their hibernation sites. This is the season for bears and other animals to hibernate for the winter. They eat nutritious nuts and sleep until spring. Snow piles up and they slowly go to sleep. A thick coat of gesso is applied and several colors of acrylic paint are layered on top and scratched with a fork. The colors melted together to create the ground where the snow was falling. In the midst of my new daily life, I have been thinking about the themes of "Though I cannot see them, they are connected" and "Though I cannot see them, they are dear to me" and I have also empathized with the concept of ancient Japan through my work experience related to shrines and the Kojiki. She is currently pursuing the expression of all things in the universe, flowers, birds, wind, and the moon, the four elements, and the 24 solar terms.

  • About this artist

    Concept

About 10 years ago, I published a book describing my experiences visiting the most famous shrine in Japan, Ise Jingu, and 125 related shrines. I also became interested in ancient Japanese mythology in which the deities of these shrines appear, and have now visited over 200 shrines. Through this experience, I have come to embrace the ancient Japanese concept that all things in the forest are inhabited by gods.

I also draw inspiration from the primitive shapes of Jomon pottery, the rich design of the Rimpa school, and the flat landscapes depicted in the ukiyoe prints of the Edo period.

I love fashion and want to use beautiful patterns and colors in my work. I want to fill the world with love through layers of beautiful colors and express the fact that we are not alone.
