Picture worked from free improvisation. Action painting with music by Gustavo Santaolalla.
I imagine the ancients from 40,000 years ago, nomads, traveling from one place to another looking for good hunting and locating caves and shelters in the mountains where they could take refuge.
Even nomads and wanderers had the need to turn their living space into a home, into the space of the community, into their sacred place.
They painted the walls and used the reliefs of the rock to shape their flat paintings.
The ancients painted for many reasons, some of them enigmatic and unknown to us, sometimes they painted schematically and abstractly.
In this work I transfer the painting to the canvas using a piece of cardboard, finding shapes and textures that remind me of cave paintings. Clusters, traces and splashes build a picture reminiscent of the ancients.
