This work "Swimming pool with industrial zone" is located in New York in an industrial zone being restructured in anticipation of the inevitable rising waters.
I started a series of swimming pools in 2021 "Pool with...", directly inspired by David Hockney's swimming pools. David Hockney's swimming pools of the 60s and 70s embody hedonism, joie de vivre, homosexuality and perhaps hope.
Today, their meaning seems different to me from David Hockney's swimming pools because of our times, because of the IPCC reports. Even if they still embody a certain hedonism, they convey an image of selfishness, they somehow be a symbol access to water, and especially the lack of access to water.
These swimming pools are symbols of our behaviour, they are reflections of swimming pools, imaginary, placed in improbable places. Of course, these pools are puddles, pools, pools, pools...
I work mainly in acrylic on stretched canvas, my work is dictated by our behaviour, I use the image to describe our lacks, our excesses often linked to intellectual laziness.
These swimming pools are part of my work on the landscape, they are a research on the composition based on horizontal lines, in search of a certain plenitude, of hope.
