Three monkeys (Jap. 三猿, sanzaru or 三匹の猿, sambiki no saru - "three monkeys") - a stable composition of three monkey figures covering their eyes, ears and mouth with their paws. It is believed that three monkeys symbolize worldly wisdom and the idea of not doing evil and detachment from the untrue. Each of the three monkeys has its own name: does not see Mizaru (見ざる), does not hear Kikazaru (聞かざる), and does not speak Iwazaru (言わざる). Sometimes a fourth monkey is added to the composition - Shizaru (しざる), symbolizing the principle of "doing no evil". She may be depicted covering her belly or crotch.
At the art work "SIDZARU`s MASK." - the artist's reflections: by the one hand - under what mask evil can hide, and by the other - what kind of mask a woman sometimes wears to protect herself from evil.
