Different shadows of white.
Original abstract painting by Alina O'Dwyer.
Have you ever thought about white and it’s various shades?
Is it a colour? In physics, the definition of colour excludes white, as it is the sum of all colours.
In the eastern traditions, white is associated with spirituality, most commonly referred to in Yogic lore as the crown chakra.
What does white mean to you? Have you truly delved into it and what mental associations your subconscious has been programmed to identify with white?
I can see snow, to me snow is the essence of white. Upon closer inspection you see under the microscope, the wonder of nature, the fractals which are ever present in nature and the universe.
I see love, I see happiness, when I see a small white kitten.
White in it’s purity causes us to reflect and bring about positive mental change for it is so closely aligned with purity.
For this piece, each shade was hand blended and applied meticulously.
The piece was enhanced with gold leaf. To me the gold symbolises objective reality, the white is my subjective reality.
The painting is 80c, by 80cm with 1.5cm depth.
