Sonora III is part of an on-going series of acrylic paintings, based on drawings that I made while flying over Mexico. I use acrylic paint on a 48x48" canvas. I was truly inspired from an incredible view of the topography while in flight over the Sonora Desert. I was awe-struck by the sudden transition of the desert into the Sonora mountains, the shadows, creating a 3-D composition, with neutral, beige to white, colors resembling enormous sand dunes. The subtlety of the beige colors, and the perspective of the mountains, was a major factor in my inspiration. Once hanging on the wall, the composition of the Sonora landscape changes ever so slightly with the available light.
