“Victimized” is inspired by the unjust culture of blaming and shaming a girl or woman even when she is the innocent party, especially in hanky-panky situations instigated or setup by a male predator. The painting expresses the artist’s concern that the defenseless or disadvantaged female often ends up bruised, traumatized and stigmatized not only by her male seducer and traducer but shockingly also by the larger society. First a victim, then victimized. A Double Jeopardy! The painting is therefore a wake-up call for people of good conscience to help reverse this uncivilized trend.
Presented through the vehicle of a contemporary abstract mixed-media painting, in “Victimized,” the artist synergizes unusual natural material with colors, spots, speckles, splashes and strokes to convey the deep hurts, pains, scars and burdens inflicted on female victims of gender cruelty as opposed to the audacity or effrontery of their ruthless male assailants.
