In shamanic mythology the horse is a psychopomp animal, a means of transportation for the shaman in his mystical journey to heaven / "in the transformative experience of mystical death and rebirth".
A sacrificial animal in Siberia and the Altai / in central and northern Asia. The horse is blessed and then killed by breaking its back in such a way that not a drop of blood gets on the participants of the sacrifice. During the ceremony, the shaman expels the horse's soul from its body and takes it away to use for his own travels between worlds. The skin and bones are hung on long staves as a sacrifice to the ancestors, and the meat is eaten according to the ceremony, with the best pieces going to the shamans.
The next evening after the sacrifice, an ecstatic journey on a horse is made: for this purpose, shamanic rituals (achieving trance, dancing) use wooden images of a horse (sometimes with eight hooves) or sticks with horse heads in which the spirit of the sacrificed animal is enclosed.
