The technique I used for this piece are a combination of digital print and traditional acrylic painting. The teeth and tongue were created digitally with and the 3D-model then printed on synthetic canvas. Then the rest was painted in acrylic and the canvas is stretched on approximately 3 cm deep stretcher bars.
The main focus lies in the human teeth, as objects, or rather body parts, which seem quite ordinary but carry an interesting dualism in them. They are the hardest material in the human body and yet so sensitive, they can cause us tremendous pain but also exert incredible strength, at the same time they are kind of fragile, as we easily loos them if not taken care of.
The human Body always fascinated me and played a role in past works a lot, but this work, seeming kind of surreal puts the focus on a particularly interesting part and highlights the incredible capabilities of nature and the human body specifically.
