Concept

The work of South Korean born artist Howl is visual samples of tasting the moment of the alienation which we feel most vulnerable in our society. Human civilization has been entirely based on our sense of togetherness. A moment you feel excluded, however, extreme fear of alienation comes to dictate you.
And the artist observes those who live with this constant traumatic fear. Thus His portraits collect vulnerable individuals or groups which are involuntarily excluded by their gender, races, culture, religion or any circumstances you'd never know with a proper reason to exclude. The artist's minimizing shapes and brush strokes give us bold tensions to confront the fear of the alienation we all might remember at some point of our lives .Korean native Howl eventually moved to New York City when he was in late 20s, and his everyday fear from cultural differences to language barrier as an immigrant is hinted well in his work.
