Do you believe in an object that can make you go hungry indirectly? I never did until I make one — this painting. Since last week I have spent time in my studio thinking about sweet, creamy food that may look harmless but actually are associated with an increased risk of many diseases, including heart disease, the number one cause of death worldwide. When I was making splatters of color on this 70x70 cm canvas all I could think of were macarons, tiramisu cakes, cupcakes, cotton candy and donuts; I wanted this painting to be a focal point at someone’s dining room but look at the mess it has made — I myself consumed too much carb by the time this piece completed. The dots are my interpretation of chocolate chip cookies and the dreamy pink clouds are cotton candy and the blue lines? Just something that reminds me of an old school sailor in his uniform enjoying a plate of cream puff and macarons, and a cup of tea at a cafe near a port watching the sails and boats in a warm afternoon.
