"Flowers are better than bullets" is the phrase of an American student Allison Krause, which became an anti-war slogan in 1970. Two years earlier, the Peace March had been held in the United States. The participants were students with hippie and pacifist ideologies. Girls were putting flowers into the muzzles of rifles aimed at them. History knows many cases when demonstrators offered flowers to the military as a symbol of peace and unwillingness to shed blood: Portugal, Tunisia, Belarus ...
These pictures are written with the same warmth and
tenderness. Until that moment, I had never painted flowers, this trend seemed outdated to me.
And suddenly I wanted spring and hope - soft, sincere, very light. In the European tradition, tulips are endowed with their own symbolism. Giving tulips, you manifest mutual understanding and sympathy. Pink tulips are a symbol of peace and friendship. White tulips symbolize good intentions and a sense of peace. "Flowers are better than bullets!"
