“Lady in Blue” has been inspired by the blue phase of Picasso. Blue is solid and profound; it is simple and refreshing at the same time. In my painting the color blue reflects the character of the woman in the center. Her posture is upright, with both feet on the ground. She looks directly towards the viewer, but not in a provocative way and her facial expression rather suggests that she has an open-minded character. Although she is depicted in lingerie, she is not ingratiating herself or chumming up. She preserves a certain distance - confident, sincere, stable and free. The blue background represents the open space as metaphor for her mind that can be compared to the sea or sky. The darker floor represents depth like the see and her appearance shows freedom (she is wearing lingerie, yet, she is not feeling uncomfortable) and stability (pointed out by her posture).
