I hate to waste! So when I peel dried paint from pallets to start work sometimes the "work" (fun) is to find critters and humanoid figures in the peels. Many variables affect how the paint comes off: humidity, temperature, the surface of the pallet (glass or plastic being the usual), and my patience. I started by setting shapes I liked on plates and making a background later. But they stick so nicely when they first come off, if they're not too dried out, that I wanted to have backgrounds ready for them. This one happened that way. Paint peels placed in relationship -- facing one another or walking in the same direction, or looking up at a bird -- can create a wood, attitude, posture, attire, even personality. I feel like a child playing with Colorforms (anyone remember?) and Mr. Potato Head. To me these two have great dignity, student and spiritual teacher intent and open. The trivial is far below.
