Concept

The process of creating an image is a dynamic interplay of feeling and what results from each revelation of the brush stroke. It starts intuitively and carries on - emotion, expression, observation, expansion - slowly revealing itself to me. It is this action that controls my process.

Colors, music, silent energy - all are crucial elements that define the beginning of a painting. I remain curious throughout; present in conversation with the image as it forms, and often surprised by what is exposed to me through the union of paint and brush and canvas. I am fascinated by the ability to create feeling through shapes, tones and performative action. It is a rich rebirth of layered moments on a smooth, blank surface.

In my work as a graphic designer the structure of shapes and colours was paramount, and through this creative focus composition has come to be a natural reflex that I continue to explore and enjoy. My art has a strong relationship with the natural landscape and lives in capturing ephemeral atmosphere, rendering each painting its own mood. The mighty and endless mountains exude for me an eternal calm, while the brisk and strong willed rivers speak to the playful and to being alive. The rhythms of nature are found in the intertwining between this pulse of adrenaline and the restorative calm. Both are vital in my life and in my work.

Always curious and daring, I strive to push myself into new realms of expression. This instinct can be seen in the bold, determined brushstrokes of the paintings. Unhesitating strokes of paint that arrive from emotion rather than rational thought. Brushstrokes and expression that then strike a balance between personal experience and expression as an artist, and the experience of the recipient. What rhythm, feeling and personal wandering will be revealed once under the keen eye of the viewer?
