Acrylic on Canvas, Ready to Hang.
This painting is named after lines in the song "Human" by The Killers - their lyrics questioning "are we human, or are we dancer". The lead singer says that the song was written in response to a claim that America was "raising a generation of dancers, afraid to take one step out of line". The lyrics speak about the fear of possibility and moving into the unknown - telling us to close our eyes, clear our heart, and take the plunge. An uplifting message for any person breaking free of constraints.
Flame red hair represents the fiery spirit needed to take risks and 'cut cords'. Kerry used contemporary techniques such as expressionism and pop art to capture her model in contrasting colours of teal, apple green, turquoise, red and orange. In this rectangular composition of an underwater world the light highlights her hands, face and dress as she floats under the surface.
