From my series of portraits, this painting represents a couple posing for what looks like a family photo. I tried to infuse a notion of movement into their clothes and the decor that welcomes them.
The lost gaze of the woman seems to suggest a certain weariness while the man seems proud to pose. He holds a cat in his hand, as one might expect from a classic portrait, but this one only shows his severed head. The stems of the flowers of the bouquet and of the wallpaper are also cut, highlighting the beauty that can be presented by newly dead beings and the cruelty of the human in his egoistic pleasure of the "beautiful".
I hope that the ensemble will allow the public to question the normality of self-representation.
