This painting is a blend of acrylics and gold leaf, and as a lot of my work's it began as something entirely different.
I usually kneel before an empty canvas before the first strike of charcoal or pencil. After this somewhat precarious move elements, forms, lines and color begin to feed themselves.
This painting, like a lot of my work's deals with our human condition. The ties that both bind, and separate.
As a painter I'm always inclined to delve back into history to visualize commentary on modern life. In this instance the Sea Beast was a terrifying dilemma for sailor's minds as they navigated through unseen waters. Much like today as we go about life a lot of which is unknown.
The painting is a dichotomy of what's real, perceived or just blind faith. How we react to a given situation.
