Description

"Show Me Who You Are" depicts a strong-willed young woman. Slightly fierce, she looks and faces while hiding a little.
A hibiscus flower in her hair, and the leafy tree on the left, suggest that she lives on a warm-weather island, like her strong temperament. Real dried leaves, stabilized by resin, are integrated into the painting to give relief to the hidden side.
Black and colored bar codes are integrated into the painting, notably on the cheek, neck and lips, to symbolize consumer society at odds with nature. Is her gaze on someone in front of her, or is she looking into herself, an inner gaze of circumspection?

Concept

Karine Langevin, KJL, is a visual artist. She was born in 1972 in Dijon and currently lives in Gif-sur-Yvette. Painting has always been part of her universe. Graduated in Plastic Arts, she practises different currents and pictorial techniques. In 2005, she became a full-time painter. In 2015, she joined the Taylor Foundation in Paris and, since 2019, several galleries represent the artist internationally. In her pictorial approach, KJL seeks to concentrate emotions in the visual aesthetics of matter and color. Her attraction to painting faces has naturally led her to portraits, but abstracts are also part of her artistic palette.
