    Description

I used heavy acrylic textures and covered the last layer with oil paints in this artwork. The distorted psychedelic side profile covered in different harsh tones of pink and bright yellow is contrasted by a light pink gentle background to distinguish the extraordinary situation. The textures on the face represents going deep within our skin and thought processes. In the idea to find ourselves, we need to lose our minds, in short we go mad temporarily. The tears in the eyes represent enlightenment in one's journey and the acceptance of one's true purpose which is to know and examine one's own life everyday and any chance we get. There is no such thing as fear but fear itself and here in this painting projects bravery to face the brutal honesty we need to reveal to ourselves.

    Concept

My practice is rooted on surrealistic and abstract approach of painting. I have an overactive imagination so most of my creations are conjured up in my sleep and when I wake up, I will relay them on the canvas or sketch for ideas. I feel deeply when using bright bold colours that is usually accompanied with thick textures. I first started doing psychedelic paintings in 2017 to help quiet my mind and slowly went out of my comfort zone experimenting with fluid art and mixed media. Most of my psychedelic creations come from a loud colourful place within myself that I feel the need to express wildly to secure my mental health, I consider this my forte compared to my other work. My creations usually consists of distorted side profiles, mythical creatures, vivid swirls, bizarre animals and unreal situations. As for pouring painting, it’s one of my favourite studies and have quite linked up to my favour of irrational reality. My mixture and sway of colours is never the same twice and has helped me understand composition further as a self-taught painter. After a few years on experiments with fluid art and mix media has led me to opening new understanding in abstract art which has helped me develop more of a feeling and less on thinking. In a way, abstract art has taught me to let go of control, quiet my mind and to conquer the loudness that’s going on in my head. This has helped me so much in self development as painter and understanding myself deeper. The projections in my creations are mostly imaginary, in a way its letting ones consciousness escape to a place that is surreal for myself and my audience. I consider myself a realist this is why I tend to go towards surrealism, tasteful maximalism and expressionism when it’s just between me, my paints and the canvas.
