To experience the seasons, it has become a routine of mine to paint the first bloom around my surrounding, during its flowering season.
This is my fifth depiction of one of my favourite flowers – Protea, the former four had found their forever home, and now you are looking at my latest interpretation of these gorgeous blossoms.
Protea flowers - native to Australia and South Africa, symbolized Strength, Courage, and Love. I am especially in love with the story behind the name: In Greek legend, proteas were named after Proteus, the son of Poseidon. A sea god who had the power to know all things past, present, and future.
Protea Frosted Fire (Protea neriifolia) produce stunning pink flowers with white feathery tips in winter. The white Protea Niobe (Protea magnifica x laurifolia) has light yellow flowers with trims of soft black, purplish foliage that outline the tips of the petals. Protea also associates to change and transformation, and diversity.
“What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity.” Joseph Addison English essayist, poet.
The flower always blooms in its own time without competing with other flowers.
May we all bloom in our time in the best season.
Hope you enjoy this artwork of mine.
