Not many people in Japan know that a mandala was originally a space. It is said that the earthen platform and the hemispherical architecture of the sacred site, which were called mandala in ancient times, mean earth and heaven respectively, and constitute the same universe as the Indian stupa, which is a dome-shaped mound. In this work, the artist has recreated the mandala as a three-dimensional tower and traced its origins, expressing the temples and vehicles of the ancient gods that may have been the template for his interpretation. Such flying cars or space fortresses, mainly called vimanas, are mentioned not only in the ancient Sanskrit epics of the Vedas and the Hindu epics of the Mahabharata and Ramayana, but also in folklore and literature throughout Asia. In fact, it is certain that the ancient wisdom that is beyond the reach of modern common sense has been passed down in different forms in architectural styles and religious beliefs unique to Asia. The theory of ancient astronauts may be occult, but the occult can also be viewed in a more avant-garde way through the spirit of learning from the past and art, which makes it more fun to look at.
