"Gaze n' Petals", contemporary expressionist portrait made in mixed media; with acrylic paint, spray paint and oil pastel on linen canvas, mounted on a chassis.
This work is part of my series of women with flowers, both of a beauty that is both fragile and ephemeral. In this artwork, the flower and the woman become one, they mingle. Behind the petals, she stares at us with intensity and gentleness in her gaze. Portrait work by construction/deconstruction, fragmentation of the face.
The touch is varied and expressionist with a rendering bordering on the abstract. Palette mainly between purples and oranges. Flower worked in dark tones for a depth effect.
A glossy varnish is applied to the canvas. The artwork is ready to hang. The edges of the table are painted for an aesthetic rendering.
