Description

Inspired by vintage photographs from the early 20thcentury, this painting is a tribute to women of that era who were expected to work at home with no hope of having a career and the independence that would allow. The painting is in mixed media in a monochrome style on a golden background (symbolic of the gold of religious paintings often signifying saints) and is painted on a wooden kitchen cabinet door, which is symbolic, and forms its own frame encompassing the figure.

Concept

I construct visual narratives in paintings of human figures, which reference world mythology or fairytales. The resultant paintings have a mythical/magical feel with psychological and sometimes dark undertones. I use a variety of media (charcoal, graphite, acrylic, oil paint and gold leaf) depending on the sort of effect I am trying to create.

What kind of hardware should I use for hanging the artwork?

If you are concerned about repayment costs, such as when renting a house, wall pins and hooks that do not leave noticeable hole marks are available at major DIY Store and art supply stores.

If you want to hang a canvas with a hook, a hook type with a long hooking surface, such as a V-shaped type is recommended.

If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
