Description

This was inspired by a vintage photograph of a woman seated by a window, who appear to be patiently waiting for someone or something. An apt metaphor for some people’s lives. Behind the figure is writing in English about the musings of this imaginary woman. The use of gold leaf hints at golden sunsets but also religious icons of saints. Lace patterns are also used with their association with not only the “delicate” nature of women but also with difficult women’s work. The white feathers are associated with cowardice in some cultures and bravery in others, and perhaps allude to the person the woman is waiting for. The picture is framed in a matching charcoal grey frame specifically designed and made to reflect the colours used in the piece.

Concept

I construct visual narratives in paintings of human figures, which reference world mythology or fairytales. The resultant paintings have a mythical/magical feel with psychological and sometimes dark undertones. I use a variety of media (charcoal, graphite, acrylic, oil paint and gold leaf) depending on the sort of effect I am trying to create.

What kind of hardware should I use for hanging the artwork?

If you are concerned about repayment costs, such as when renting a house, wall pins and hooks that do not leave noticeable hole marks are available at major DIY Store and art supply stores.

If you want to hang a canvas with a hook, a hook type with a long hooking surface, such as a V-shaped type is recommended.

If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
