The painting comes from the series Rough Edges of Deep Fissures which examines the invisible, yet deep and painful wounds we all live with, which are amplified as we’re confronted with the “good vibes only” culture around us. The psychological harm resulting from suppressing negative emotions and projecting a positive image has been well documented, yet we feel compelled to conceal our struggles and suffering, which leads to isolation. Toxic positivity and the platitudes tied to it are more socially accepted than being open about how we feel. Yet I see these wounds as honorable badges, our proof of embracing life fully and being, in the words of Carl Gustav Jung, “on the firing line”.
Painted with acrylic on cotton canvas hand-stretched on a wooden frame made from locally sourced wood. The painting is signed on the front (monogram signature) and on the back (full name, date, title, signature)*.
